😎 IELTS Section
🎓 This is arguably one of the most important exams in the lives of many students. Everyone hopes to achieve a high score, but not everyone succeeds.
🙅🏻♀️ Let’s look at some common mistakes students make in the Reading section.
📚 The Reading section does not simply test your ability to read. It evaluates your understanding of the text, your ability to identify the main idea, analyze information, and draw conclusions based on what you have read.
⌛️ You are given only 60 minutes to complete this section. During this time, you must read three long texts and answer 40 questions on the answer sheet. That is why time management is crucial.
🚫 Main mistake:
Trying to save time the wrong way.
Many students reread the text several times and spend too much time trying to understand every unfamiliar word. Don’t waste time on this — your main goal is to answer the questions correctly.
The questions themselves guide you on what to look for. It is often better to read the questions first and then scan the text step by step to find the answers. To understand the general meaning, it is not necessary to read every word in detail.
🤔 Another common challenge is unfamiliar vocabulary. IELTS texts often include academic language and are taken from scientific fields, research articles, journalism, or media sources, which can be difficult for many students.
🤓 To avoid confusion and stress, preparation is key.
Read more technical and academic texts in English. Choose articles from different fields and styles. For a while, consider reducing fiction reading and focus more on newspapers, magazines, and scientific articles. Expand your vocabulary — translate and memorize new words as you encounter them.
